This conservation village is a loose collection of buildings grouped around a large common. But unlike most villages many of its houses would not look out of place as mansions in a country estate. The fine houses are mainly the 18th Century works of architects James Paine and John Carr built for the wealthy merchants of Wakefield. The King’s Arms Inn provides an excellent stopping place for snacks, meals and real ale.
