Founded in the 11th Century the parish church has served a community that changed very little over hundreds of years. But the diversion of the main street to accommodate a World War II air force base that left the church down a quiet lane. Modern housing needs have added to size of the village but the local railway station remains firmly closed and overgrown. Today the churchyard is a conservation area with a military extension that includes the graves of the servicemen from Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
