Opened in 1940 and in the ‘stripped classical style’ of the period, this imposing building in the centre of Huddersfield hosts a permanent collection of predominantly 20th century British Art. This includes paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture from renowned artists such as Francis Bacon, L.S. Lowry, Stanley Spencer, Edward Wadsworth and Henry Moore. There is also a varying programme of art, craft, photography and sculpture from local, national and international artists. Visitors to the Art Lounge can purchase small pieces of art from Yorkshire’s first art vending machine.
