In 1994 a school fundraising event drew an enthusiastic response from the parents and residents of Kettlewell, resulting in over 100 scarecrows appearing in gardens, open spaces, hidden corners and even on rooftops. Due to its success and popularity, the event has taken place every year since and now attracts thousands of visitors over a 9-day period every August. Today, the event is jointly run by the school, St Mary’s Parish Church and Kettlewell Village Hall. Pictured right is a scarecrow from 2005. The sign reads "Grow your own dope. Plant a man today!"
