As one of the most progressive regional theatres the Lawrence Batley in Huddersfield plays an important role within the life of the community and has since opening in 1994 developed a reputation for its programme of drama, music and dance. Located in a former Methodist Chapel the Lanson Auditorium has a seating capacity of 477, while the more compact Cellar Theatre is somewhat smaller and used by jazz, comedy and amateur productions. The theatre also possesses a number of licensed bars for patrons to enjoy a quiet glass of wine.
