Leeds Town Hall is an impressive building situated at the Westgate end of the Headrow. It was built by Cuthbert Broderick after he won a competition to build it in the mid-19th Century. Open by Queen Victoria in 1858, the town hall houses a fine organ and a huge bell that weighs more than 4 tons. When you consider that Leeds didn’t achieve city status until much later (1893), this was a rather imposing building to construct in a town! Today the town hall is home to the Leeds International Concert Season, the Leeds International Film Festival and other events.
