The Leeds West Indian Carnival is the oldest carnival in England and is second only to the famous Notting Hill Carnival in size. It was formed in 1967 by some immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago. The carnival takes place in August each year and is a colourful spectacle that attracts not only local residents but also tourists from further afield. Here you can enjoy costumes, music and dance of Caribbean origin. To enjoy the atmosphere, get along to Potternewton Park which is where all the action begins!
