Situated between Leeds Civic Hall, Leeds Town Hall and Leeds General Infirmary is Millennium Square; Leeds’ project to mark the year 2000. It was funded by the City Council and the Millennium commission. The square cost £12 million to create, and is a popular area for outdoor theatre performances, pop concerts and civic ceremonies. The design aids access for disabled people whilst preventing vehicles from entering. It is a unique pedestrian zone. The Millennium Square also incorporates the Mandela Gardens.
