As a visitor attraction, a bleak bare cave in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, might not immediately seem to have much tourist potential. However, Mother Shipton's Cave, located near the River Nidd remains immensely popular, with a long and colourful history dating back almost 400 years. The birthplace of England's most famous prophetess, the cave and adjacent petrifying well, which turns everyday objects to stone, makes for a fascinating day out, which the whole family will enjoy. Additionally, picnic areas, adventure playground, museum and glorious riverside walks make a trip to Knaresborough even more delightful.
