The highlight of any visit to the Museum is the underground tour. Experienced local miners guide parties around the underground workings. Each visitor is provided with a hat, belt and battery, so that the true atmosphere of working life underground is captured. Above ground there are many attractions, which include a modern visitor centre, genuine pit ponies, a train ride, machinery displays, steam winder, pithead baths and the recently restored Hope Pit complex.
