Following an extensive programme of refurbishment People’s Park stands today as a living testament to Francis Crossley who created this tranquil green oasis in 1857 when he returned from travelling in New England. The park, covering a mere 12.5 acres, has a traditional bandstand, water features, sculptures and improved public facilities. It also boasts a children play area for the youngsters and is one of the most popular such venues in the district, especially on warm summer weekend afternoons.
