Dating from 1928, this police box is the only survivor of 120 boxes which served the Sheffield City Police until the 1960s. Approximately 5 feet square, the box was used by patrolling officers for meal breaks, shelter from the rain, report writing, and recording messages via a direct telephone link with the local police station. It also served as a temporary lock-up for suspects. For fans of the Doctor Who TV series this historical structure should bring to mind the “Tardis”.
