Wandering around the gardens of Gomersal’s Red House Museum, it’s easy to see why authoress Charlotte Bronte was so enchanted with this delightful family home which she visited on many occasions, when calling upon her close friend Mary Taylor who once resided here. Constructed in the 1660s it features as Briarmains in her novel Shirley, and is an integral part of the Bronte Trail, attracting thousands of international tourists to West Yorkshire. The house appears as it would have in Charlotte’s time and no doubt she would still feel at home here.
