The Rotunda Museum has been described as the finest surviving purpose-built museum of its age. William Smith, known as the Father of Modern Geology, designed it. In the vast collection here is a rich series of archaeological pieces that have been discovered in the local area, particularly at the Star Carr site. There are also more recent explorations of history here, manifesting themselves in photographs, artefacts and maps.
