Sheffield General Cemetery is a site of national historical importance. Opened in 1836 it became the principal burial ground for Victorian Sheffield and is home to the graves of over 87,000 people. One of the earliest commercial cemeteries in Britain it contains several unique catacombs, nine listed monuments and one of the deepest single grave plots in the country where rest 97 ’paupers’. A marvellous green-space on the outskirts of the city centre the General Cemetery offers relaxing walks away from the hustle and bustle and stunning panoramic views over the city.
