Shepherd Wheel is a Grade II Listed water powered grinding workshop that last worked in the 1930s. Located in Whiteley Woods next to Hangingwater Park, this may be the “Potar Whele” recorded in a will in 1584. One thing is for certain; the wheel is named after a Mr. Shepherd who employed ten men there in 1794. There are two workshops that were once used for grinding a variety of knives. This Scheduled Ancient Monument has been preserved and can be used to demonstrate the process of water-powered grinding today.
