Skipsea Castle stands on the edge of the village of Skipsea, close to Bridlington in East Yorkshire. A Norman motte and bailey castle, the original structure was built by Norman chief Drogo de la Bouerer around 1086 in order to defend the Yorkshire coast against Viking raids. All that remains of the castle today are the earthworks, as the rest of the structure was raised by Henry III’s armies.
