St Mary’s Church was built on land donated by the Duke of Norfolk and was completed in 1830. A massive and imposing site on the edge of the city centre the church is typical of the period. The church originally stood within a spacious burial ground unfortunately this has been greatly reduced. St Mary’s was badly damaged during the blitz but has been restored to its original splendour. Relax in the shadow of the immense spire while you enjoy some refreshments in the café.
