The Royal Armouries Museum was opened in 1996 to house the national collection of weapons and armour. There are five themed galleries: Tournament, Self-Defence, Hunting, Armour of the Orient, and War. The exhibiting of armouries dates back to the 15th century, when they were showcased in the Tower of London. Due to the growing size of the arsenal, it was decided to move most of the weaponry to Leeds. The museum now has an astonishing amount of primary sources which indicate the wonders and horrors of battle throughout the ages.
