Named after Ralph Thoresby, the first historian of Leeds, the library foundation was established in 1889 and has since that time been instrumental in charting and protecting the history of Leeds. The main library carries an extensive collection of books, pamphlets, journals, press cuttings, photographs, maps and drawings that record the many changes that have happened in the city. There is a varied programme of events here including regular public lectures, seminars and book launches.
