Victoria Tower, which stands on the flat plateau of Castle Hill some 900 feet above Huddersfield, was constructed to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign and is without doubt one of the region’s best known local landmarks. Open to the public on summer weekends the tower has an internal staircase allowing visitors to climb to the top of the structure, where they can obtain spectacular views of the county spread out below. Castle Hill itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the perfect location for a leisurely picnic.
