The city of Wakefield has a fascinating story to tell and visitors to the city museum will be amazed by the huge variety of artefacts on display, all of which reflect the diverse cultural background of this historic location. Local history, archaeology and natural science all figure prominently, with a whole gallery devoted to the work of conservationist Charles Waterton, who established the world's first nature reserve at nearby Walton Park. The museum also hosts a regular programme of temporary exhibitions and runs children's activities throughout the school holidays.
