This theatre has a heritage which dates back to 1970, as Leeds Playhouse it had twenty years of success on the campus of Leeds University. In March 1990, the re-named West Yorkshire Playhouse opened on the site of Quarry Hill. Its location is acknowledged in the name of the larger (750 seat) Quarry Theatre. There is also the considerably smaller (350 seat) Courtyard Theatre. The playhouse has a great reputation and supports local writers and community-based projects, as well as large international productions. It features several amenities such as a restaurant and an award-winning cyber café.
