Gifted to The Knights Templar by the Percy Family, The Water Mills (no longer standing), sluices and Weir at Wetherby have been an important part of the town’s history since the 12th Century. Girtin, who produced a number of landscapes of the area, painted repairs being carried out on the weir in 1800. Wetherby Preservation Trust reconstructed the Weir as we see it today in 1982. The Weir is now a key part of the Wharfe Riverside Walk where visitors can feed the ducks, picnic and on many summer Sunday’s listen to the Wetherby Brass Band.
