Whitby Museum is owned and operated by the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society, established in 1823 and now has over eight hundred active members. The older parts of the museum are often considered to be a ‘museum within the museum’ and offer a fantastic Edwardian environment, conducive to lapping up the fantastic artefacts and photographs on display. There is a costume gallery, lecture room and tearoom within the museum.
