The world’s oldest surviving lifeboat – The Zetland – is housed at the Zetland Lifeboat Museum on the seafront in Redcar. This particular vessel was used from 1802 and saved over 500 lives in its lifespan. The museum itself is a listed building, where the lifeboat was launched from on its missions. It has various displays on the history of lifeboats and sea rescue, and lots of old photographs and paintings of Redcar – plus the Zetland itself. Open May 1st to September 30th.
